On the 28th of August our little trio began our long journey to the other, more glamorous, side of the planet. At this point I had packed and re-packed my luggage about 100 times, making absolutely sure that nothing unnecessary was being dragged along for 5 weeks with me. I'm super happy with my luggage choice (since I'm writing this after the trip, I lived and breathed out of this bag, so you can trust my opinion). I went with the
Caribee 80L Skymaster which I purchased from
Wild Earth for almost $100 less than irl retailers.

So yeah this luggage was sweet, to be completely honest I was a bit in love with it and very attached by the end of the trip. It has a really nice blue lining, a laundry shoot pocket, a small easily accessible pocket for front access which I used for shoes. The wheels are so solid, I dragged this thing over cobble stones, through mud, up and down stairs and escalators in the London Underground (to be fair, Rhee's lovely husband Kris did most of the carrying through the Underground !). I only used the hidden back pack straps twice; our apartment in Paris was on the third story up a very narrow and rickety stair case.

| Packing cells - my savior |
Another shout-out; to my lover Kathmandu, anyone who is looking at traveling needs to get their butt into a store. These packing cells made everything so much easier, didn't have clothes floating all through my bag. I knew where everything was most of the time. Also, their little travel pillow pictured above is unbelievably comfortable, I slept on it every night and even in the hostels where the pillows were awful. Could not recommend it more. I also bought their $50 sleeping bag which was cool enough for Italian summer but warm enough for rainy Germany and Netherlands. Packs down small and only weighs about 500g.
I'm pretty happy with my packing and preparation now that I look back. Didn't really pack anything I didn't use. Footwear was an issue but will discuss this in another blog - it's a big one lol.
